Served as weather officer, achieving the rank of Captain, in the US Air Force for three years. Was Chief Forecaster at Myrtle Beach Air Force Base, SC for last eighteen months of tour of duty; during that time the unit was consistently in the top three worldwide in forecasting accuracy of all weather stations; awarded honorary membership in the British Royal Meteorological Society; was awarded the Air Force Commendation Medal for superior service.
